Ok, it’s official. I hate working out in the winter time. In summer, it’s fun because you can instantly show off your progress with your body. You can toss your workout clothes in a bag, trot to the gym, and get your fitness on without a care in the world. In winter, however, the idea of working out is as alluring to me as shoveling three feet of snow. I already have a certain amount of inherent lazy-assness when it comes to working out, but winter multiplies it by 10.
I’m currently working my ass off so I’ll be in great shape for some video shoots in LA next month. I get help from my personal trainer boyfriend, but to get the most results within a small amount of time I do additional workouts, too. In an effort to find a form of exercise that doesn’t make me hate life, I decided to try yoga. My true addiction is Bikram yoga, because it merges my love of heat with my love of exercises that are effective, yet NOT difficult as hell. If you’ve never tried hot yoga, you have no idea what you’re missing.
There are sooooo many reasons why everybody and their momma should try yoga at least once in their life. It’s one of those forms of exercise where you can set your own pace and still feel results. It’s awesome for stress relief, it increases your stamina, it corrects your posture, and does bunch of other awesome stuff that you can’t accomplish while sitting at home on your couch waiting for the Good Health Fairy to visit. She ain’t coming. Don’t believe the lies. Yoga is literally a fitness regimen that ANYBODY can get into, all you need is the will to do it and a damned yoga mat.
At first I wasn’t sure of what type of yoga I wanted to do. My schedule is super busy, and I didn’t want to sign up for a package deal of classes where you have to go to class on a set schedule. My life is far too unpredictable for that. My friend had been talking to me about Bikram for a long time, so I finally decided to give it a try. Basically, Bikram is a form of yoga that you do in a room that is heated to about 105 degrees and has about 40% humidity. Everybody in the room is dripping with sweat and the heat really helps everyone flex easily into the postures. Aside from being sexy as hell, its a GREAT work out. The postures aren’t difficult at all, and there’s only 26 of them. They’re just challenging enough to keep your mind from focusing on the hot, toned, glistening body lying on the yoga mat next to you. I always leave feeling refreshed and energized. I think what I love most about it is the fact that IT’S HOT! I hate winter with a passion that is unrivaled. So Bikram is my daily dose of heat that helps me maintain my natural bad assness that is inhibited by the cold climate and low sunlight of winter.
If you have never tried yoga, it’s worth checking out. Take it from a lazy girl who hates doing stuff, yoga can change your life for the better. There are many different forms of yoga, and a lot of facilities around the country that offer special deals and/or low introductory rates. There are so many health benefits to this practice that there’s no excuse to not at least give it a try. And did I mention that practicing yoga can help enhance your sex life? I actually haven’t tested that theory just yet, but when I do you’ll be the first to know :o)
