Being iced out is more than just a first world obsession. The high value of diamonds has made them one of the best-known and most sought-after gemstones in the history. A few years ago, the quest to create the ultimate bling led one jeweler to do the unthinkable. So if you’re feeling luxurious and you’re in the mood to splurge on yourself, you’ll be happy to know that the world’s first all diamond ring can be yours for a mere $68 million dollars.
Shawish Jewelry, a Swiss brand that produces limited edition high end jewelry using precious gems and old world craftsmanship, describes their work as “a marriage between high jewelry and technology” and “the art of jewelry and innovation.” Carved from one single-faceted diamond, the 150 carat all diamond ring is truly a work of art. Mohamed Shawesh, president and CEO of Shawish Jewelry, says “A ring made entirely of a faceted diamond has always seemed like a fantasy, It seemed impossible, so we decided to embark on the adventure of creating it. To create the perfect diamond ring is the epitome of art.”
In discussing the process for creating the ring, Shawish talks passionately about how this ring came to life:
“We had to do multiple tests with the design, to get the precision of the circle right. Diamonds are made of carbon and molecules that can change, even the colour can be altered when attempting to cut it. We had to buy special laser equipment, to cut directly into the diamond. The most important aspect is preserving the integrity of the diamond and of course the most difficult phase is precision cutting an entire stone into a ring.”

This sparkly creation caught the public’s attention, earning over 400,000 views of this video on Youtube. However, Shawish Jewelry is no one trick pony. It’s arguable that a recent piece, a bespoke Octopus bracelet paved in diamonds, is an even greater example of their technological prowess and artistic vision. It didn’t get the attention online that the all-diamond-everything ring did, but I can only assume that Shawish’s current clientele does not need to look to social media for style inspiration. Not only does the bespoke Octopus bracelet sparkle, but it emits a colorful radiance that’s lit from within.
With their new flagship store in London, it will be interesting to see how Shawish continues to innovate in the world of high jewelry. I’m looking forward to seeing what jaw dropping creations they’ll dazzle us with next.
