Lipstick Obsession

“Heels and red lipstick will put the fear of God into people.” – Dita Von Teese

Let me start this off by saying that I never used to be the girl that was brave enough to try new things with my daily makeup routine. I kept it simple: foundation, concealer, and some mascara. It was something that could be done in a couple of minutes.

Then I discovered my lipstick obsession.

Now I rarely leave my apartment without it, and I like it that way. Maybe it came from watching too many make up tutorials on YouTube, or seeing my roommate’s infinitely growing collection of lipsticks in every shade. Wherever it came from, my lipstick obsession gives me confidence and makes me feel powerful.

I took a chance, tried something new, and it worked for me in the best way possible.

If you’re looking to step your lipstick game up a notch, here are some shades I’ve been obsessed with recently.

Bonus: They are also easy on the wallet.

NYX Matte: Perfect Red

NYX Matte Lipstick (Perfect Red) $6

Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t wear red lipstick, because there is a shade for everyone. Perfect Red is literally what it says–perfect red. I like this one because it’s such a classic staple to have in my makeup bag. Not to mention, matte lips are definitely a hot choice for those holiday work parties –just don’t forget to moisturize beforehand, mattes can sometimes dry out your lips! I recommend using Burt’s Bee’s moisturizer ($3.49) to keep the matte look moisturized.

NYX Butter Lipstick: HUNK

NYX Butter Lipstick (Hunk) $6

Berry shades are the newest addition to my lipstick obsession. They’re incredibly versatile that can be worn during the day and into the night. HUNK is a shade in the butter line, which is essentially made for long wear. It’s hydrating too, which is always a plus.

Finally, a mix of both berry and red. Burgundy shades of lipstick are great for a pop of color on those days when it’s grey and cold. This is another one of those staples I have to have in my bag, and I have at least three. I have a theory that burgundies look good on any skin tone.

Ladies, do yourself a favor, don’t be afraid to try something new with your daily routine and discover your own lipstick obsession. The perfect shade will add that little flare to your appearance that you’ve been looking for.
